The question I am asked most often is, "What is Mechatronics?" Well a simple definition is:
"Mechatronics is a cross-disciplinary field of engineering that combines mechanical, electrical and computer engineering to meet high performance manufacturing industry standards." As you look at the image to the left you can see how the three primary fields equally support the discipline. The outer ring contains the various industries in which you will find Mechatronics Technicians working. Here at Burton our program is designed to lead you into this exciting field with dual enrollment credit at Virginia Western Community College. Students can take the course work and credentials earned at Burton to a follow on A.A.S. in Mechatronics Systems Engineering Technology. For more information about the dual enrollment program please click on the "Dual Enrollment" tab above or below. |
Site Overview
Course The Mechatronics/Robotics course is a two year program for students in grades 9-12. Students will learn about this exciting area of study that offers great opportunities for careers in the field of manufacturing.
Students also have the opportunity to continue with Mechatronics while completing independent study after completing year two. |
Dual Enrollment The students in the Mechatronics/Robotics course have the opportunity to take the course for dual enrollment credit at Virginia Western Community college. They can take advantage of reduced costs while earning college credit.

Certifications While enrolled in the Mechatronics program at Burton, students have the opportunity to earn industry certifications. These are valuable skills that employers are looking for in the field of manufacturing.
These will be worked on in year two, three, or four of the course. The students work towards earning NIMS credentials (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) and the Introduction to Mechatronics certification from NC3 Certs. |
